IKEA basically has 2 options for trash bin cabinets in the kitchen. These 2 options work differently and come with their own limitations. IKEA has special under-sink kitchen cabinets just for trash and recycling bins. Specifically, this IKEA kitchen cabinet. This is a matter of stability and the IKEA system itself. To understand this, you need to look at how the cabinet and drawer glides are put together. The rail that holds the cabinet together and keeps it secure only works with door fronts that look like doors.
The drawer will be pulled in and out with varying degrees of weight in the bins. Why has IKEA limited us this way? Instead of manufacturing many different rail and door sizes and the like, IKEA is using what they already have. Some pieces have more than one use. Here are a couple of things to look at.
IKEA sink waste piping
We design with these cabinets all the time. Just note:. Be sure to pick bins that fit! When your sink is part of a normal, against-the-wall base cabinet run, the plumbing comes out of the wall. When you put a sink into a kitchen island or peninsula, the pipes and plumbing come out of the floor. The pipes eat into that remaining The pipes would also block the bottom drawer that needs to get installed. We hope this helps you think about your kitchen design.

Just go into a Grahams plumbers merchants or similar and they will get you the right fitting if you explain the problem to them. Therefore chuck most of the waste kit in the skip and buy a proper sink strainer and convention P trap. You may have to use the Ikea overflow parts but they normally connect onto standard basket strainers. I spent 5 hours last Saturday night re-doing a botched Ikea kitchen waste. The weight of the Ikea waste assembly had caused the waste pipework under the floor boards to sag.
Over the course of the year it had blocked the contents backed up and overflowed through the ceiling of the flat below. Blu-tac had been used to seal the hose connection. Worst of all the customer only told me about the wasps nest outside the kitchen window after I had been stung twice. The floodlamp does tend to attract them at 11pm! Gasguru12 Aug It's rigid 45mm odd pipe - any suggestions?
You can't do a decent job with the Ikea waste kit. If he has any kind of conscience then tell him to do it properly. Always amazes me when the public sell houses or cars they are willing to bodge and don't give a toss about the new owner but are only to quick to complain when it happens to them. Very true, i own a second home that i rent out and am doin my house up to sell - i have to do everything 'proper' i've probably gone over the top in some instances but my conscience is clear. I'll give him your advice and leave it up to him to do what he wants.

ikea waste\trap connection
This is connected to the drain by an adapter. I have fitted this and it it looks awful and all hangs on the screw in the plug hole! The washing machine hose also hangs off this arrangement. I would prefer to fit a standard trap under the plug hole. Thanks for your help. It comes with a cup under the plughole attached to the bottle trap by You must log in or register to reply here. I recently put in two new kitchens it's a long storyand in both cases time and money dictated choosing Ikea, including the plumbing - something which I am now coming to regret! I have two questions for anyone who has tackled and beaten the Ikea sink plumbing system: 1 The 'Atlant' sink waste system - those ridiculous sink plugs! I therefore bought a set of the new plugs for the older sink, assuming that this would solve my problem - but the bloody things still let the water out!!
As far as I can tell, both Atlant waste system I used are identical, so I can't fathom why these plugs work in one sink and not the other. Can anyone offer any advice on this? Or suggest an alternate make of plug which will fit and work! I have checked and swapped the valves and they appear to be OK, and I have checked the flow of water before it gets to the tap, and this is OK too.
We live in a flat, so the hot water pressure in the kitchen isn't as high as it would be in a house, but it should still give a much greater flow than it does the supply is fine in the bathroom, where the pressure is the same.
The first of these taps that I installed works fine, but that was abroad and the hot water there is at higher pressure a 'geyser' type boiler. Also I suspect that that tap, although it has the same name, might be an older model and different internally. The tap that is giving the problem appears to have a separate CENTRAL internal channel which is connected to the hot supplywhich has a much lower cross section than the chamber surrounding it as opposed to a tap divided down the middle to give equal chambers.
Had I known this before installation, I would have connected the cold supply to the central channel - although I am not convinced this would have been correct either, as I would have ended up with a very high pressure jet of cold water coming out of the middle of the tap, and mixing would have been interesting!
IKEA Sink Waste
Has anyone else had this problem - and solved it? I could, in theory, simply swap the hot and cold feeds, but unfortunately I had to cut these to different lengths to connect them to the supply because of space restrictions, so swapping them would be a bit of a job. Also, I may be able to remove the tap and swap the inlet pipes supplied with the tap these screw into the base of the tapbut, as the base of the tap is not reversible, this might be more of a problem than a solution.
And, as I've said above, I'm not altogether sure that fitting the much higher pressure cold supply to the narrow central chamber is a good idea anyway. Any thoughts on all this would be welcome. PS - Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, I'm a newbie. Joined: Jul 28, Location: Dallas, Texas. Here's the story. These are nice sinks with a huge fullsize drawer. The kit comes with the sink, drain, and pvc plumbing for the waste. Faucets are sold separately. A unique feature of this sink is the drain does not need to drop into the vanity. This feat is accomplished with a specialized drain strainer and tight 90 degree elbow see photo. I am looking for a way to use a different strainer to match the finish of the non-ikea faucets.
I doubt I will find a drain that will fit with the ikea pvc, so am interested in replacing the drain outright. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find replacement parts for this type of drain in the local stores and Ikea does not and will not sell replacement parts. I am looking for a replacement drain with a similar configuration to the Ikea setup, or a way to build something that will work.
Your guidance and wisdom are appreciated! Last edited by a moderator: Oct 31, Joined: Sep 2, Occupation: Retired Systems engineer for defense industry. Location: New England.
This is my non-pro opinion It appears that either there's a drum trap at that 90 at the back, or that it is designed for p-trap down lower. This means that that horizontal section will accumulate hair, soap scum, etc. There's a reason the p-trap is directly under the drain. I'd measure the sink drain hole opening and find some kind of pipe attatchment for it.Godmorgon IKEA Cabinet with non-IKEA plumbing
I dont think any plumber would ever recommend that pipe system for the sink. I dont know how ikea gets away with selling that crap without a trap in it. I've attatched a pic on what it could look like if you use the vertical branch and part of the horizontal run, just adding a trap before it all. That drain hole is really the only problem I see here especially because it is from ikea and will be metric sized everything. If you dont have a trap, you're gonna smell crap!! Bottle trap it is, complete with flexible tailpiece s.
Just an opinion, but like most plumbing and electrical things that come from IKEA it is junk, albiet pretty junk, that should be illegal to sell. Come to think of it, I couldn't even find screws for the drawer pulls my wife brought back from there. Good luck!Discussion in ' Plumbers' Talk ' started by JayAug 10, Log in or Sign up. Screwfix Community Forum. Anyone fitted one of these ikea sinks before. My plumber isn't happy with the drain plugs and waste pipe kit.
He says it's not right and he cannot get appropriate kit from suppliers. Can anyone suggest decent kit of these sinks?
JayAug 10, That's not the one with the Square waste pipe is it. If so had to chuck it all and buy standard British fittings. Phil the PaverAug 10, Bozzo and KIAB like this. I've fitted them before, they're a big clumsy ,wobbly, uncontrollable contraption, but they do work, I just say sorry about the awfull unsightly mess but that's how it comes, If you want me to go out and buy somthing neater it will cost X amount of pounds.
It's a big grey flexible pipe. The plumber says we need longer centre pins for middle of drainer plugs. I know nothing about plumbing but surely this isn't the only domsjo sink fitted so it must be possible. Have searched online but can't see anything definite on the kit that's needed for the job.
FatHandsAug 11, You mean he doesn't carry them as a matter of course? The reason you employ "professionals" and pay accordingly is for them to get over problems like this. That's why I carry a load of "get out of jail" funny fittings. As said above the end result may not be pretty but it can be made to work er, by someone who knows what he's doing.
